Good Ambler: A Coffee Shop for the Bougie

If you know me, you know I love good coffee, a sweet treat, and some bougie aesthetics. Good Ambler in the West Loop has all three. It’s a great place to pull your laptop out and do a little work, or to bring your out of town guests to grab some coffee. Either way, this is a place you’ll want to stay for a while.

Good Ambler’s coffee is good, but my favorite part is actually the pastries. So far, everything I’ve gotten is delectable (fancy food deserves fancy adjectives). Almond coffee cake and coconut almond florentine are among the sweet pastries I’ve enjoyed. My all time favorite has been the ham and cheese croissant. It melts in your mouth and is just perfect.

The last time I went, they collaborated with chef Leigh Omilinksy, a pastry chef at Swift & Sons. I tried the cinnamon roll kouign amann, which was a first for me. The layers were flaky, sticky, and so sweet and tasty. I about died.

Besides the incredible food, the space is very aesthetic and industrial chic. Exposed brick with chandeliers. Brown leather booths and velvet couches. The space has seating amenities to work privately, or come and chat with your friends.

The last selling point - if you’re not sold already - is the open kitchen. You can watch the pastry chefs knead dough, pull things out of the oven, and frost desserts. In fact, there’s a counter where you can sit and watch, and drink your coffee.

Check out their menu online. Not only do they have amazing breakfast pastries, they also make and sell chocolates, decadent desserts, and whole loaves of different cakes. You can order ahead for pickup, or check to see what they currently have available.

Until next time - may your weekend be full of creativity and style.
