My Favorite Fiction Authors

I’m not the biggest reader you’ll ever meet, but I do love a good story. And once I find an author I particularly like, I tend to read their whole catalog. Here are a few of my favorite fiction authors, and no surprise, they’re all women! I truly feel like you can tell when a man is writing female characters as opposed to when a woman is writing them. They just seem much more complex and real

Liane Moriarty

Liane Moriarty is a famous Australian author known for Big Little Lies. I absolutely loved that book! Not only did she write that hit, but she wrote several other books that I couldn’t put down. What Alice Forgot, Here One Moment, and Apples Never Fall  are among my favorites.

Moriarty has a way of writing both humorous and thought provoking narrative. I find myself laughing out loud one moment, shaking my head at a beloved yet deeply flawed character (rooting for them nevertheless), and tearing up. Her writing is complex and thoughtful, and is always woven with mystery.

Taylor Jenkins Reid

Taylor Jenkins Reid is the queen of time travel. Well, not time travel time travel, but jumping back and forth from past to present. Her narratives are so dynamic and never slow. And her stories are somehow permeated with nostalgia. I am so drawn into the story that I almost feel like it’s my story. My personal favorite of hers is Carrie Soto is Back. I also love her other titles Daisy Jones & The Six, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and Malibu Rising

Her books usually take place in the same world with some character crossing over, but you do not need to read the books in a certain order or at all to understand them. It feels more like a fun cameo.

Jojo Moyes

Jojo Moyes is the author I read when I feel a little melancholic. Her stories are either dramas, or have a slice of drama in them. I love how her mind works and the compelling narratives she comes up with. Her reads are like substantive beach reads - relaxing but very thoughtful.

My favorites of hers are The Giver of Stars, The Girl You Left Behind, and of course, Me Before You.

Until next time - may your weekend be full of creativity of style.
