Small Ways I’ve Been Romanticizing My Life

I love a good romanticization (is that even a word?). Photography, for me, is a lot about capturing memories in an emotional way. But in my everyday life, I don’t often appreciate the little beauties like I wish I would. Lately, I’ve been trying to be a bit more present and create special moments. Here are some small ways I’ve been romanticizing my life.

Placing Sweets in a Domed Cake Stand

I bake a lot - particularly cookies and muffins in the fall. I usually store baked goods in typical plastic tupperware, but the other day I decided to get out my domed cake stand and store baked goods in there instead. And I absolutely loved it! It made it feel more special, and it was a lot more aesthetic than plastic sitting out on the counter. We went apple picking last week and got some donuts, and I ended up displaying them on the cake stand, as well, and it just felt elevated and pretty.

Lighting Candles

I have a bit of a scarcity mentality, so I don’t light my candles very often (even though I have, like, 20). This might be a lame tip, but I’ve left a candle out on the dining room table next to some mini pumpkins, and I light it a few times a week. The twinkling fire is really pretty and, obviously, it smells amazing.

Playing Music While Cooking

I always feel like I’m in a movie when I hear 1950s dinner party music. Occasionally, I’ve been putting some music on while I cook because who doesn’t want to feel like they’re in a movie? It’s so fun to dance and sing along to, and it makes cooking feel a little less mundane.

Taking Film Photos

iPhones are great to capture fleeting moments and cute videos (especially when you have a toddler running around). But taking film photos adds so much nostalgia to everyday moments, so I love pulling it out for our evening walks. It’s also so much fun getting the film back and looking through the photos! It definitely adds a much more romantic feel than normal iPhone photos.

Showering with Steamers

My MIL got me some shower steamers for Mother’s Day, and I’ve been really taking advantage of them lately. Since it’s cooler out, taking a long, steamy shower is sooo nice. And it’s even nicer with relaxing scents. Taking a shower always feels good, but this adds a romantic element to it.

Nightly Drink

Trader Joe’s has their fall items in now and I am obsessed with their Witch’s Brew. It’s basically just mulled wine, which is basically just cold weather sangria (and sangria is my favorite). I’ve been having a little night cap with the windows open, cold air blowing in. I love it!

Until next time - may your weekend be full of creativity and style.
