How To Spend and Afternoon in Malibu

Spending an afternoon in Malibu has always sounded so romantic to me - so California. Malibu is - to me - the pinnacle of California-ness, and as a very obsessed woman, I’ve felt a strong need to go there. During our last trip to California, we drove up with Jason’s sister and spent the afternoon in Malibu. Here’s what we did:

Getty Villa

Our first and primary stop in Malibu was the Getty Villa. The Getty Villa is a home created in the style of ancient Roman homes. It’s incredibly beautiful, with a skinny pool, balconies, Roman garden, and an ocean view. The Villa is full of art and historical artifacts from ancient Greece and Rome. I went with the hopes of admiring some beautiful architecture, and ended up also admiring and learning a lot about history. I didn’t realize the artifacts would be there, and wished we had more time to spend there!

There’s a fun gift shop with a gorgeous, modern fountain outside of it. There are also grounds around the house you can walk around.

It is free to enter, but you do have to pay for parking (which is better than paying for individual tickets if you’re going with several people). I highly recommend going!

There’s also a Getty Museum not too far away in Los Angeles.

Malibu Farms

I looked for restaurants in Malibu on Tik Tok, and didn’t find too many (Malibu is actually pretty small with only 10,000 people). I kept seeing videos of Malibu Farms on Malibu Pier and decided to try it! It was kind of pricey, about $40/person, but our food was absolutely incredible and worth every penny!

Jason got the breakfast burrito, and I ordered the crab cake sandwich. Never in my life have I enjoyed such a delicious sandwich. AND we were at the end of the pier, sitting outside with an ocean view. It was great!

My sister-in-law ordered some sort of steak sandwich and also really enjoyed it. We got drinks and dessert and had such a great time!

The food was classic California fresh, meaning it’s farm to table and only the best ingredients are used. It’s bougie but it really does make all the difference. I would recommend this to anyone visiting!

El Matador Beach

El Matador Beach has been on my bucket list, but unfortunately it didn’t work out to go there this time (we had to drive back for dinner and the traffic was horrendous). Next time we go to Malibu, it would be nice to spend the night there so we could watch the sunset on the beach, and then drive back through Laurel Canyon where all the iconic musicians from the 70s lived. Next time!

Until next time - may your weekend be full of creativity and style.
